Sunday, April 13, God moves unexpectedly to the Cross. The sermon text from Luke 19:28-40, is the expected Palm Sunday passage. We go to church with expectations of waving palm branches, and shouts of hosana. As Christ makes his grand entrance we know Good Friday is coming. We know Christ is going to the cross.
Imagine you're one of Christ's followers at his triumphal entry, or one of those in the crowd shouting, "Hosana! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the LORD!" Perhaps you're one who lays down your coat in front of the messiah. Shouts of hosana save now fill your ears. The expectation of the messiah was restore the kingdom to his father David. This is what the crowd and Christ's disciples expected. Even though Jesus tried again and again to make clear what was going to happen, many still didn't get it. The expectation of the Messiah was to save them now from Roman oppression and restore the Kingdom of Israel. Instead of going to the seat of power and over turning Pilate's seat, Jesus unexpectedly goes to the temple and over turns tables. Instead of over throwing Roman rule Jesus dies on a Roman cross. God moves unexpectedly to the cross. Thankfully God has another unexpected move in mind, Friday is good because Sunday is coming. Join us Sunday at 11:00 to learn more.
